Historical Background

Founded on May 23, 2004, the Philippine Nurses Association of Northeast Florida, Inc. came into fruition from the leadership of twelve Filipino nurses with the objective to unite the Filipino nurses by establishing a professional organization to call their own. The PNA Northeast Florida Inc. was formerly known as Filipino-American Nurses Association of Northeast Florida (FANANEF).

The association was incorporated in September 13, 2004 and was granted a tax-exempt status by the IRS as a non-profit organization (501c3) on September 29, 2005. Being a Board of Nursing continuing education provider, the members acquired nursing contact hours as one of the benefits of joining the association.

The PNANEF became a legitimate national chapter of the Philippine Nurses Association of America in 2006 and the eleventh chapter of the South Central Region in the same year. PNANEF officers and members already gained the reputation caused by their strong representation at the regional, national and international conventions and their ability to produce a number of local leaders to the regional and national levels.

The existence of the PNA Northeast Florida, Inc. is a reality as it is now for the Filipino-American nurses as they advance to an emerging organization that will continuously provide initiatives for their personal and professional growth of the members and to enjoy the other benefits such as networking, educational and scholarship opportunities, global outreach programs, and opportunities in research, leadership, nursing recognition, succession planning and social interactions.
